This week we are in the midst of one of the most distressing times that can be remembered as we contend with election anxiety, an out of control pandemic, social distancing, social unrest, social media overload, and the continuing problem of climate change. These challenges threaten to throw us out of balance, focus our attention on perceived threats and sow seeds of helplessness and hopelessness. During these times it is important to maintain a long term perspective and connect with the people, activities and inner resources that enable us to respond to the challenges with resiliency, a heart of love, and compassion. The world has been through rough times before. Justice, truth and love prevail in the end. We can trust that we too can rise to the occasion. Here are some of the things you can pay attention to now that can be helpful.
- Focus on personal values and life goals.
- Be sure you have a support system in place comprised of family members, friends, teachers, mentors and/or counselors.
- Join like-minded people or organizations to take meaningful action.
- Make time for self-care including
- meditation, prayer
- music
- exercise
- some comfort food in conjunction with an overall healthy diet
- safe (distanced, masked) socializing
- Manage/limit media exposure.
- Move forward with your life, planning and scheduling time to balance work, self-care, family responsibilities, and involvement in social issues
